Year 6 Vision:
Year 6 is thoughtfully structured to give children a strong foundation in essential skills. Mornings are dedicated to focused learning in reading, writing, and maths, with spelling and grammar woven in seamlessly to support progress. Afternoons offer a chance to explore non-core subjects, giving children a well-rounded and engaging school experience.
Spring Term Overview:
Mathematics We follow the White Rose scheme. This term, pupils will explore:
- Ratio
- Algebra
- Decimals
- Fractions and percentages
- Area, perimeter and volume
*This unit builds on the skills and knowledge in Year 5. To begin with, the children will identify equivalent fractions, compare and order fractions and add and subtract fractions.
Reading This term we will focus on SATs style revision.
Project Work
Spring Term: Frozen Kingdoms.
This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of polar regions, including the North and South Poles, and includes a detailed exploration of the environmental factors that shape and influence them.
Key vocabulary:
- Permafrost — permanently frozen ground found in polar regions
- Glacier — a massive, slow‑moving body of ice formed from compacted snow
- Tundra — a cold, treeless biome with low‑growing vegetation
- Blizzard — a severe snowstorm with strong, sustained winds
- Adaptation — specialized traits that help organisms survive harsh, icy environments
